That’s a Bible in the front y’all!! You know sometimes we have to call his name when we’re trying to detangle this mess! “JESUS!!”

And before you start talking about the broccoli, pudding, chocolate sauce …

Happy MLK Day and Congratulations Mr. President!

Standard

obama-and-king

Watching the Inauguration footage of our President for his second term. Regardless of how one feels about his politics, I think that, as a black person, we have to acknowledge the significance of what it means for a black man to be elected to the  highest office in the country, not once, but twice. I swear, after that first debate, Michelle pulled Barack aside and said, “Listen. I know you’re tired! I know you’re sick of fighting! But this isn’t about YOU!! It’s about every little black child out there watching you and seeing the possibilities!! Now, get it together and get ‘er done!!”

Oh, and on another note, black people didn’t elect Barack, everyone did. And, my personal feelings? The POTUS isn’t playing anymore. He doesn’t have a second term to worry about and he has an agenda that he will do his best to get accomplished.

That being said, as I watched the post speech footage, I remembered watching this video shortly after his first election and had to share.

Bwahahaha!! Muhammad Ali was a smart, SMART man!! đŸ˜‰

Happy MLK Day!!

JL8: A Refreshing Re-Imagining

Standard

In honor of the long overdue Sci-5ive lunch that I’m going to attend today, sharing a little gold nugget of a comic strip that a friend posted on my Facebook wall a couple of weeks ago. If you like/love the Justice League, especially Batman, and GOOD comic strips, check this one out. It starts out a little slow, but really starts getting good around strip 10-12. There are a lot of cameos and inside jokes for the well-versed superhero fan and the continuous story keeps you coming back for more.

Here’s a little tease with one of my faves from JL8 (I think it stands for Justice League 8 y/o).

JL8_23If you watched JL/JLU animated, this strip is like a full series based upon one of my fave episodes, Child’s Play!!

Check out JL8 from the very beginning here. You can thank me later ;).

(p.s. There are currently 103 strips and, from what I understand, new strips are added twice a week.)

20 Films that Will Stick with Me

Standard

the-color-purple

Remember those old Facebook “games” that you played via the “Notes” feature back when you couldn’t write long statuses?!?! Well, this was an old one that I dug up!

The Rules?

Name twenty films you’ve seen that will always stick with you. First twenty that you can recall. Don’t take too long to think about it.

Here are mine!!

  1. To Kill A Mockingbird (This was the first time I read a book after seeing the movie – I was in 6th or 7th grade, I think. Also, TKM is Superman’s favorite book! *lol*)
  2.  The Color Purple (I hate to cry and I’m sensitive, so I usually don’t like to watch tearjerkers. When I come across The Color Purple on TV? I watch it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This movie was sooooo robbed. Every person involved in it should have earned an Oscar.)
  3. Star Wars trilogy (It’s not cheating! It’s just one big three part movie :).)
  4. X-Men 2
  5. Transformers 1
  6. Superman (originals: 1 and 2)
  7. Delirious (Eddie Murphy)
  8. Weird Science (“And she kicked him in the family jewels!” “The family jewels?!?!?”)
  9. Sixteen Candles (Jake Ryan. Need I say more? *le sigh*)
  10. Just One of the Guys (Knew this entire movie VERBATIM. Drove my college friend crazy when we watched it together.)
  11. Little Shop of Horrors (Another one that I knew VERBATIM. I need to buy the soundtrack for this!)
  12. The Toy (first movie I ever saw at a theater. It was drive-thru!)
  13. Purple Rain (Might have been the first movie my family owned on VHS and my one cousin insisted on watching it every time she came over our house! I actually ended up hating it!! LOL!!)
  14. Boomerang (“Ya got ta coORdiNATE!!”)
  15. Beverly Hills Cop 1 (“I ain’t fallin’ for no banana in my tailpipe!”)
  16. The Matrix (Probably my favorite movie of all time. What do you mean the sequels? There aren’t any sequels.)
  17. Blazing Saddles (“You are soooo smart … and they are so dumb.”)
  18. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (“You’ve got no arms!!” “‘Tis a flesh wound!”)
  19. The Princess Bride (“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You kill my father. Prepare to die.”)
  20. The Avengers (“You wanna know my secret? I’m always angry.”)

Sometimes It’s the Little Things

shower

Okay, this is one of those completely “Random Stuff I Like” posts that I like to do now and again ;). Probably just about every day, I have a moment where I think, “Blankety-blank-blank is the BEST feeling in world.” But, I think that about so many things, that I can’t say that any ONE thing is the best. But, I do believe that these are SOME of the …

BEST LITTLE FEELINGS IN THE WORLD
(in no particular order)

  • Taking a hot shower (WORST feeling? Stepping out of that hot shower into a cold room!)
  • A big, long, tight hug
  • Fitting into clothes that I couldn’t wear a few months ago (BETTER feeling? When those same clothes are falling off of me!!)
  • Getting home and taking off my work clothes
  • Leaving work the last day before a long vacation
  • Finishing a work-out
  • Getting into bed knowing I don’t have to get up early to go anywhere or do anything the next day
  • Waking up from an amazing night of sleep (you know, the kind where you wake up in the same position that you started in, have creases on your face from your pillow and realize that you didn’t wake up all night? That kind of sleep!)
  • Okay, I’m about to get really real here. So, you may want to skip this one. You still reading? Okay, you’ve been warned. Having a bowel movement that leaves me feeling 5 pounds lighter and like I just finished a cleanse. I’m saying.
  • Sitting in my clean house
  • Finishing ALL of the laundry
  • Having a weekend with no plans
  • Taking off heels that had the dogs barking at the end of a long evening
  • Arriving at my destination after driving for HOURS!
  • Finding money in a pocket!! Doesn’t matter if it’s $1, 5, 10 or 20! That’s FREE money $$$!!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

So, those are some of my favorite best little feelings in the world!! Any of these make your list? What would you add?

One Thousandth Post and NYCC 2012!!

Standard

Guess what?!?! I hit another landmark!! A couple of months ago, I hit 1,000,000 + views and today, I hit a landmark post!! This is the 1000th article published on hairscapades.com!! Wooh-hooh!! That’s a lot of content … y’all don’t need me to write anymore, right ;)?! LOL!! And, I figured, what better post to debut my newest head accessory for New York Comic Con 2012 ;)?!?! If you’ve been around since this time last year, you know about NYCC 2011 and my hair accessories of choice for that Con. But, if you missed the recap, feel free to check it out here. Although I don’t “cospay” (noun. Literally, “costume play.” The art or practice of wearing costumes to portray characters from fiction, especially from manga, animation, and science fiction.), I do like to join in the fun with my own fashion choices. Typically, it just involves a fave character tee-shirt, but I’ve gotten a little more creative in the last couple of years with the help of the internet!

I saw the above pic (left) on the Tumblr page of  Bryan Konietzko, one of Avatar: TLA creators. I immediately knew that I HAD to have it! So, I “commissioned” a friend/co-worker to knit it for me!! She was tickled pink at my silliness and immediately accepted the challenge, despite the fact that she hadn’t knitted in a few years and had never made a hat! But, I think she did a GREAT job! And, no hair worries! I’m wearing a Dri Sweat Fit Cap under it to protect my tresses from the moisture-robbing fabric (see, I brought this back around to hair ;)!

Anywho, can’t wait to debut my hat at the Con next weekend to see what kind of reaction it gets! That’s one of the very few places in the world with people who will appreciate it rather than look at me like o_O! LOL ;)!!

Alright, that’s it! I just couldn’t wait to debut my little secret anymore!! I’ve been keeping this under wraps for over a month now! But, with the Con less than a week away and this being my 1000th post, thought it was a great time to share!!

#30writenow … welcome to my mind

Standard

by Weusi

yesterday shelli mentioned an old friend of mine so today i looked up her tweets …

in fact … i just looked at a link from one of her tweets today and she said that for the month of octoober she’s writing for 30 minutes for 30 days … and yes, we both know that there are 31 days in october but we also know that no one wants to write on halloween …

i was like ok, i want to write more. i’m gonna do the same thing.

i don’t really know what i’m writing about … so welcome to my mind ….
today will be some free thinking, verse, improve, stuff …

free …
like the wind … and powerful too
but like water, my thoughts are monetized
co-opted by capitalist thoughts …
my own thoughts …”i’m more than gifted. i’m special beyond logic. how can i capitalize from on my gifts? and give back? i gotta give back.”
like water to earth. ya know …

earth holds water … water rises to clouds … falls back to earth … water nourishes life … water finds itself contained … free water makes someone rich …
it’s a cycle … right … ???
wrong or left …
being wrong was not an option … because being wrong is equated with not doing something right and because i’m clear that as a child of god, i will always do things right for me … at the time … and since i work hard to be better than good …i’ll say
left …
when i was younger, i played soccer/foootball … on the left side …
i started playing defense … the coach wanted me to play on the left side …
i wanted to become a left footed soccer player.
i moved to left wing … then to left center half
i wanted to be the best. i figured that i was already right handed and was better than many on my right side so developing my left side would make me great. i started to try to write and eat like lefty … my parents just thought that my hand writing was bad … they didn’t know i was writing with my left hand. (now they do). i did al kinds of things that i could in order to try to develop my left side.
but then my football aspirations started interfering with my school work …
and i almost flunked out of school/left behind in school …

haha … my mind just shifted to the words behind or school … when i think of the word behind i think of women’s backsides … behinds … i think i’ll build on the word school instead …

school … education … academia … the streets … value … balance … community … class-ism … elitism … humility … smarts … wisdom … teachers … students … classrooms … lessons … experience … time … thought … logic … creativity … options … choices … share …

hair … shelli … hairscapades.com … i love her … i need to write more for the site so that shee can write less … and we can share more time together …
anyway …

i’m done writing i’m gong to spend time with shelli … ’cause yeah … i love her … and you should know this … the same way you know water is wet …

this is fun and feels uncomfortable simultaneously … i might really do this thing for 30 days … i might not post them all but … i’ll let you read some of them. i think i really like to write with more clarity in my vision but this free writing is fun …

Community

Standard

Okay, here is another installment of “Random Things Shelli Likes” post ;)! In fact, that should say “Loves!” So, Community is one of those little jewels that is right up my alley with its silly, irreverent, clever and absurd characters and stories. This is a series that definitely has hits and misses. Sometimes you have to wade through some pretty ho-hum episodes … but it’s sooooo worth it. Because, when they get it right?  They get it sooooo RIGHT!! This episode was one of those times.

The plot? Our cast of characters all attend Greendale Community College. A friendly campus-wide paintball game has taken a drastic turn and a war now ensues. Why? Because the prize is … Priority Registration. The last man standing has first choice when scheduling classes in the fall. GO!

MODERN WARFARE

Best … episode … EVER.

I’m so happy that it got renewed for a fourth season!!! It was touch and go there for a while! I was going to be devastated if it didn’t return as there is so little “Theatre of the Absurd” type TV out there to feed my predilection for clever, geeky silliness. And so, for my other Community fans out there, how AWESOME is this poster:)?!?!?

(I REALLY need to start watching Dr. Who as I hate knowing that I’m missing out on hilarious references. Plus, I don’t want to chance getting my “Geek” card revoked. ;))

Korra: The “Legend” Continues …

Standard

“You’ve been given another chance Korra. Get it right this time.”

So, just learned yesterday that Korra isn’t just getting one more season, it’s been picked up for THREE additional seasons! Let’s hope that the series will be redeemed with more time and episodes. I hope Bryan and Michael bring back the team-writing approach and develop a more complex storyline and multi-dimnesional characters in order to tell a story that is a worthy successor to ATLA.

via Bryan Konietzko (Tumblr)

The Legend of Korra has been picked up for an additional 26 episodes, which will be split into Books 3 & 4! Mike and I had been hoping to announce this big news to the crowd at the Korra SDCC panel tomorrow morning, but the network put out a press release yesterday. And as we suspected, people are pretty confused, understandably so. Hopefully people are also excited.

I’m sure I’ll be trying to clear this up in posts for a long time to come, but I’ll lay it all out right now:

–Book 1 = 12 episodes

–Book 2 = 14 episodes

–Book 3 = 13 episodes

–Book 4 = 13 episodes

–TOTAL = 52 episodes

Yeah, yeah … I’ll be tuning in to season 2. Michael and Bryan deserve at least that for the world that they gave me with ATLA … changed my cartoon life forever. We’ll talk about season 3 once the second one is over though.

ETA: I WANT THIS HAT!!!

So what about you, my fellow ATLA fans? Will you be tuning in for season two of Korra?
