#Frotober Day 08: Journey/Discovery

Standard

The top three pics are of my relaxed hair at 13/14 y/o (got my 1st relaxer at 13), at 20/21 in my college grad pic, and at 21/22 as a senior in college after I chopped it and went red. Bottom pic is shortly after my #BC at 28 and last is about two years later at 29.

1st pic was at 29 (about a year after my #BC), 2nd was at about 33/34 (after a Ouidad cut), 3rd was at about 35/36 (about 2 years after I #BC’d again to ear length straight, b/c I was bored with my hair). Bottom left was early 2010 (during the naturallycurly.com GOC after mastering the TnC) & last pic was Feb this year (2012) when my hair was the longest it had ever been. One more to go!!

Last one. Promise :D! These pics are all from 2012 after my awesome layered cut by Tameeka aka @jadedtresses !! I’ve been natural for 12, going on 13, years and have never looked back. Natural/curly hair has always been me and fits my personality and lifestyle. Love it in all its diversity!!

  1. Hii , wonderful hair and growth but I got a question about the 5Th pictures, ur hair looks like mine kinky curly and frizzy, but after that ur hair looks more silk and hydrated, so what do u change in your regimen to achieve this result.. My hair is fine but I had a full of hair in the same time, I don’t know what to do to keep them moisturize soft and silk as they used too in my childhood. thx u , by the way I really love ur blog

    • Awww, thanks. I think the change came when I started deep conditioning with Carol’s Daughter Tui Hair Smoothie once a month. Between that fifth and sixth pic, I believe is also when I started using Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter instead of TCB light grease to mix with with my gel for WnGs and started co-washing more often instead of shampooing every wash. I think the DCs and better moisturizer probably are the reason for the improvement.

      • thx , I’m co wash and DC a lot using Garnier brand, AND I moisturize with different things but maybe too light or too heavy because I never get result , it’s seems my hair becomes lots better by its own after two days of my co washing :s ..I don’t know

  3. Hi Shelli:
I love your blog! Thanks for sharing your pictorial with us. Gorgeous journey!! It seems as though you had an explosion of growth at a certain point (looking at the last two pics of the second set). Exactly what do you attribute that to? Did you feel ‘stuck’ before that growth phase? Lol!

I have been natural for a while and have been taking care of my hair weekly dc, keeping ends cared for and such), but it seems like I’m kinda ‘stuck’ at a certain length. Can’t figure out why.
    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Zenith. Thank you! As to those last two pics in the second collage, the difference isn’t as huge as it looks. My hair had gotten past BSL at the end fall of 2010 and then I got a trim, that really was a haircut. She cut off about 3 inches, I think. In that next to last pic, I did a TnC where I roll the twists all the way up to the roots to try to get it to look like a bob. So, that is why it looks so much shorter. Here is a post where you can see my true length in February 2011 and my growth/retention over a year and what I attribute it to:

      HTH!!
