Haircut Party: They’ve Been Jaded!

Standard

After Tameeka (aka Jaded Tresses) did a demo at the Hairscapades Meet-Up in May and cut my hair in June (as seen here), several local readers started contacting me and her about getting their hair cut as well. I knew Tameeka made “house calls” and did hair parties, giving a great discount off of her NYC salon prices too! I mean, she comes to you … saving tunnel, train, parking and what-have-you fees to NY and you get a discount off her amazing services to boot?!?! How can you beat that?!

So, the week before I left for vacation, I set about organizing a Hair Party. Tiffany asked her parents to allow us to use their house on 7/15 and they very graciously obliged! It started with a small group of 5-6 ladies and we ended up with about 18 people in the house, with 9 of those getting their hair cut or trimmed and styled!! Yesterday, we took over the kitchen and dining area with our hair shenanigans!! LOL!! Oh, and Wei somehow ended up on babysitting duty, but I think he enjoyed every moment of that ;).

We started at 11 am and didn’t wrap things up until 8 pm (Tameeka didn’t take one break!! She’s a BEAST! *lol*). Every head of curls had a different shape, length and texture. It was awesome to see her cut and style each lady’s hair without seeming to take off any significant length!! The hair on the floor and her flip-flops was proof that hair was falling though!! Tameeka really worked her curl magic. A great time was had by all, everyone learned a lot and, I think it’s safe to say, every lady walked out a satisfied customer!!

So, without further ado, here are “before and after” pics of everyone! All “afters” immediately below are of wet hair except Tiffany, who was the last client of the day. So she was the lucky model for Tameeka’s diffuser demo. Here we go …

And here’s a slide show of some of the stuff that happened in between, as well as some “final results” dry hair pictures. Everyone looks amazing!!

So, what do you think? Don’t they look awesome?!

It’s amazing how a good cut and ‘how to apply product’ on our heads can make all the difference in the world. Maybe we can all meet at the shop on the same day for our trims (i’m getting color too) in 6-8 mos sorta like a reunion/update episode!!! Thanks again to you and your parents!

  5. We’ve been jaded and love it! Tameeka not only delivered stellar hair cuts and styles, she answered our questions about hair care and maintenance as well as giving each client a demo of how to achieve the look at home and what types of products to use. Chloe is on the moon because she has this faux bang thing going on!!! Thank you Tiffany (especially the Millican’s), thank you Tameeka for your love of hair and sharing it and thank you Shelli for organizing a truly life changing event for our hair!!!

  6. OMG..everyone looks great! This must have been an awesome experience for everyone involved. Shelli, will this type of event happen again? If so, please keep me in the loop. I am coming up on my 2nd year of transistion and I am ready to think about letting go of my relaxed ends.

    • Heather, I sure will keep you in the loop! There is definitely interest in doing another one, so I’d really like to do it. I’d also like to do some other things …. so the wheels are spinning and, hopefully, I’ll start the ball rolling tonight. Since we can only do so many people at this type of event, I’ll be reaching out via e-mail on a first come, first serve basis. You’ve made the cut and I have your e-mail. So, keep an eye out for my e-mail in the next couple of weeks!

(p.s. You made it a whole two years!!! I know it’s been challenging for you at times, but you made it!!! Just a little while longer and you’ll say goodbye to the final remnants of the relaxer! Are you excited to see what your hair will do without the straight ends?? You know I would LOVE to be there to see that :)!)

        • Miche’al, I already had you on the list!!! LOL!!! I didn’t post this one at all. Most of the people were already trying to get cuts with Tameeka and had either told me directly or told her. So, that’s how this one came together. But, knowing that you are in NJ and always down, when I started putting the list together for a second one this morning, you were at the top of the list for me to check with to see if you were interested;).

  8. Wonderful. Nothing like a good professional haircut to make your curls pop. Little Chloe’s hair – sigh. Just beautiful. Luckily I live in NYC so I might have to check Lady Tameeka out!

    • Natural Beauty, I’m lived in NJ for my entire life and have been natural for 12 years and just discovered her 2 years ago. So, maybe there IS a “Tameeka” where you live and you just need to do some digging to unearth that gem ;).

Now, I have to say Michelle did not look like a happy camper, but the finished results . . . can you say fabulous? I’ve been following her WnG series on YT and cannot wait to see her results now with her new cut! Great job Tameeka! If you ever take your show on the road (to ATL) let me know!

  15. Where has Tameeka been all of my life?!?!?!?! I love everyone’s hair and would love to have her cut/style mine so that I can stop wearing it in a ponytail. Can you let me know when the next hair party is so that she can rescue my hair.

    • LOL!! You got it Nikki! Just shoot an e-mail address to me at my hairscapades gmail account so that I can reach you in the future, or supply your e-mail address when you “sign in” to make a comment, and then I’ll have a record of it. I don’t think the one attached to this comment worked.

    • Hi Dovea, I believe Tameeka used Wonder Curl Get Slick Smoothie and Get Set Jelly on everyone. All seemed to like the products, but, as Tameeka always says, “It’s all about the technique.” She says you can get the same results with any product that you like and that works well for you.

  21. I would loveee to have my hair cut and styled properly since I’m new to the natural hair world (I’ve been straightening for the past several years). Coincidentally and conveniently enough, I live in NY :). But, I tried going to her site and it didn’t go through? And is anyone/everyone invited to these hair parties?

    Like

    • Hi Natasha! Yeah, her site is down for construction right now. Try her Facebook page instead and message her or you can e-mail her at tameeka (dot) jadedtresses (at) gmail (dot) com.

As to the haircut parties, if you contact her and she has one scheduled, she’ll see if you can come as well. As the size is limited, they aren’t advertised. But, if I know of any going on and am aware of ladies interested, I try to reach out to them to let them know. But, I’ll need your e-mail address. So, you can send it to me at hairscapades (at) gmail (dot) com. HTH!
