I want to start off by saying that I am so excited about this GOC! I think this will be the perfect way for me to get some of my hair and weight goals accomplished!
Name: Gwenda Mayo
Goals: Hair – My hair is currently shoulder length. I just got a trim. I would like to work on coming as close as possible to armpit length as I can during the next six months; Weight – I am currently weighing in at 230 lbs. I want to drop around 30 lbs. during the next six months.
Regimen:
Hair*
- Every other Sunday I will pre-poo (EVOO and coconut oil) my hair to prepare for my wash day.
- I will be washing my hair every other Monday with a clarifying shampoo (Garnier Fructis Triple Shield).
- After I wash it, I will do a deep treatment (Creme of Nature Argan Oil DC or Elasta QP 11+ DC with EVOO added).
- On Mondays between wash day, I plan on co-washing my hair (Suave Naturals or Organix Conditioner) and then do a quick deep condition using my Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner.
- Every six weeks I will be doing an Aphogee Protein Treatment. I will do one on March 30, 2012 and then go from there.
- Every three months, I will either do a trim on my own or I will have a professional trim my hair.
- I plan on moisturizing (Garnier Fructis Argan Oil Leave In) and sealing my hair (EVOO and raw shea butter/coconut oil), as needed.
- I also plan on re-wetting and detangling my hair as needed.
*I am super willing to take suggestions about this regimen!
Weight
I have no idea on what I need to do with my weight. I NEED HELP! I love junk food. I work a sit-down job where the vending machines are plentiful.
Rewards: Hair- I will get my hair professionally straightened at the end of the six month GOC!; Weight- I will buy a new pair of work-out sneakers or a new outfit.

Hi Gwenda! Your hair regimen looks great. If you have the discipline to go through this process I KNOW you can achieve your weight-loss goals. Try taking regular breaks from your desk and walk around. No lifts, no stairs and substitute some of your junk food for fruits. A food diary for a few weeks will be good for you too. I’m all for baby steps! And most importanty TRACK YOUR PROGRESS. For the first time in my life I’ve stuck to a workout programme and its all from tracking my progress. You’ve got this! 😉

Thanks Haircoustics! I am really trying to give it a go. I have been working on cleaning up my diet and I will definitely take your advice and walk around during my breaks! I do think that taking baby steps will make this whole weight loss journey a lot less daunting! Thank you so much for your advice and encouraging words!

I work a sit down job also. Every couple hours, I do a walk around the building. Every hour, I stand up while I type just for a while. There are lots of vending machines here also – stay away! Pack healthy snacks – apples, oranges, bananas, carrots, almonds, raisins, etc. Try eating while working and getting outside for 30 minutes to walk. Or however much you can do. Only change one thing at a time – then stick with it for 2 – 3 weeks. Once you have it down, go to the next. Maybe just start out with walking for 30 minutes a day. Whatever works!

Thanks for that advice Tya! I am packing more fruits and vegetables with my lunch and I find that leaving my cash at home helps me stay away from the vending machines and fast food during lunch. I will start with just walking around my building regularly and standing up to get my blood flowing. I really do appreciate the advice, it helps!

Hi Gwenda! You can do it lady, I believe that you can. I too (well used to) sit for my entire 8-hour work day, that is until I realized how important it was for me to get up and move every 15 mins. Our office suite is very big, so I stop my work and walk around to all of my coworkers’ office just to say hello (and be nosey, haha, we are all family here and get along like that). I get my exercise in and get to also greet them. Stay away from the machines, if you can stick a post-it note on your computer screen telling you to stay away!! LOL, it works because I have one on mine. I’m with you on the weight thing so you are not by yourself. Keep a journal of what you eat and eventually healthy eating will become a habit! Good luck!

Hello Beautyngracebydesign! I will try the post-it note on my computer! That’s a good idea! So is the food journal. In fact, I will start that up tomorrow. I am glad to know that I am not the only one working on their fitness. 🙂 I do appreciate the encouragement. It’s making me feel like I can really get this done!

Well your hair looks good so far, and I like the reddish pink color in it as well. On the weight loss well you can try these really good workout videos to help you lose the weight. 1st is http://www.insanity.com where you get results in 60 days and 2nd is http://www.tapoutxt.com where you get results in 90days. Just try to keep yourself motivated in your workouts, and plus since the weather is much nicer outside you can also walk around the park etx..

Hello Zyaran! Thanks for the hair compliment- the reddish pink color gets mixed reviews, lol. I will definitely be looking into those workouts. I want to get into actually working out, but I may have to wait until I drop down to a part time shift. usually when I come home after that 10 hour shift I am ready to fall into the bed.
