Three Month Length Check

Standard

The third month of our GOC came to a close at the beginning of this week, so it’s time for my “official” 3 month length check! I’m getting very close to my goal of waist length hair. However, my shirt is not laying properly in the first picture below. As you can see, it’s hiking up a little in the middle and it looks like I’m closer to WL than I am. However, I rushed Wei to take this pic before he left for a few days, so I’ll have to wait until he returns to do another take. Also, because I didn’t take still photos of my July length check wearing this DIY tee-shirt, this isn’t the greatest comparison shot. So, I’ll also take a pic with the sports bra I’ve used for prior length checks in order to post side by side comparison photos. Anywho, this was just a quick post to share my progress. I’ll be back with an October wrap-up at the beginning of next week with modifications to my hair regimen, and a recap of my personal fitness challenge. It started with a roar, but ended with a whimper :(. But …  November is another chance to get it right, so I’ll lay out my plans for this month too.

Don't worry, that's not a bald spot at my crown. It's my overgrown grey roots! Henna Time!!

*****************************************************************************************************************************

Okay my GOCers!! Time for those October wrap-ups! Send your updates and pics to me at hairscapades@gmail.com or give us the rundown in the comments! For all those who haven’t submitted any update since we began, we’d love to hear how you are doing 3 months into this thing. Are you still following your regimen? Trying new things? Is all going well? Has it been challenging? Clue us in;).

      • Thanks guys and LOL @ Tiffany “hating;).” Girl, your hair has grown a ton!! You know, I went to Walmart and got a memory card with more gigs, but forgot to get a tripod!! I meant to because this camera can’t stand on its own, so it’s another problem I was having trying to take videos with it! I have to go look for one this weekend!

  1. I agree with Rece. It’s growing like wild weeds! Congratulations.

I got a killer hair post coming on Monday. I started doing the naturally curly method by Teri LaFlesh and I swore it wouldn’t work for me. I’ve done it 3 times so far and this post shares my results and curls!

          • I’m so serious. She even called me last night over your length check pictures. She was like ‘you can’t send me stuff like that at work!’…lol I am your pusher! None of my natural friends follow sites like I do but I show them you and others as references all of the time so that they can get familiar. Don’t you worry, once they get with it, I will absolutely make sure they subsribe! Hmm…didn’t think of it until now but they’re all on FB. I’m going to tell them to ‘like’ your page right now.

LOL!! My hair will never be that thick, but I’m going for that length:). And thanks!!! I’m only 9 people away from reaching 400 FB “likes.” 500 is the next goal;).

    • You can do it Sophia! one day at a time. 🙂

I definitely notice other naturals now. Funny thing is I sometimes want to compliment women on their hair but feel awkward doing it *shrugs.

Monday’s post is a long one but it’s got lots of pics so stay tuned!

        • When I went to homecoming at WSSU, there were so many women whose hair I was ogling!! Oh, and at Comic Con, I was walking behind this one woman just wanting to say something, but I didn’t. If I had a business card, I would have sooo walked up to them and asked them if I could take pics:)!! But, as it was, I didn’t, so I wasn’t saying anything!! Every now and again, I will tell someone I love their hair … but it’s not as often as I would like to say it:).

And thanks Sophia. As to your own goals, how are you doing with starting a regimen? Did you see your doctor yet? Have a verdict? The thing that is going to enable you to achieve your goals is your desire to do the work to get there. Being aware, vested and doing the work to find out what you need to do is half the battle!! You’ll get there!

          • I gotta tell you that I probably have a ‘rep’ as a hair stalker, if I see a woman whose hair I love I tell her so. The other day on the train a woman was coyly trying to snap a picture of my hair with her iphone…I noticed…I smiled…she was mortified. Newly natural she said that I, ‘lil ‘ol me was HER hair crush. It was so sweet, we chatted all the way into the city.

  4. I haven’t had that much success. It has been breaking and shedding like crazy. I feel like an animal that sheds their coat in weather changes. Your hair looks great!!!! I’m with Sophia if only my hair would achieve that length. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong because I don’t do anything to it but show some love and care and then leave it alone. As for exercise I have been on and off. I am really enjoying my hot yoga, but I can only go once a week (don’t think I could handle 2 anyway) because of the time the class is offered. I did get out and run when the weather was nice. I also did loose an additional 2lbs. I am now 2lbs away from my goal of 130lbs. Hopefully I will have more success with my hair.

    • LOL MIche’al no – not an animal! Are you also taking your supplements? Maybe try a protein/moisture balanced treatment then keep your hair up in twists? Also, are you combing your hair dry?

I know how you feel. I was going through this phase of breaking (not shedding tho) and couldn’t figure out why because I was doing everything right. Then I started to re-add the protein treatments and have seen an 85% improvement.

I’m sure Shelli will chime in with some good advice. I get ridiculous bored at work (especially when my boss isn’t here lol so I have time to peruse blogs)

      • Yeah, that’s what I was going to say too Miche’al … that is, maybe you need a protein treatment? How does your hair feel? Is it too soft maybe? As to the shedding, this is the time of year where they do say it increases, so it’s normal. How often are you washing and styling? I hate hearing that you feel like you’re not having much success :(.

        • @ Shelli I style and wash my hair ever 7-10 days. My hair feels mushy if that makes sense and dry at times. If I put to much stuff in it, it get stringy and lifeless. I have to find some balance.

      • I got the protein conditioner that you got, so I am going to give that a try. Twist are sooooooooooo boring and we discussed I can’t wear those to work all the time I look like one of my students. LOL!!!!

        • Miche’al, if your hair is feeling mushy, then it sounds like you ABSOLUTELY need a protein conditioning treatment. Mushiness signals that your hair is OVER-moisturized. Fortunately, it is a lot easier to correct that than too much protein. so, that ApHogee treatment may be just what the doctor ordered for you. Let me know how it goes. I probably am going to do a post on this soon (protein/moisture balance and how to determine if your hair needs moisture or protein by testing the elasticity of shed hair).

  5. My hair haven’t seen much progress. I think I may be around the same length as when I started in September. I trimmed about 1/4″ a month ago. I’ve been keeping up with moisturizing and sealing daily, protective styles, etc. I also shed a lot daily though thankfully I don’t have much breakage. I still do henna about once a month. This past Monday I did a protein treatment. I think I should stay on top of protein more. I still wash (cowash or shampoo) in sections 2-3 days a week after prepooing with oils. As far as I know, I’m doing everything right…

In terms of fitness, I’m still at it. I’m up to 90lbs on the deadlifts, 4 sets of 7 pull-ups on my full weight – you get the picture! Diet is still on point. I’m a little more strict on my Paleo diet and that’s been helping a lot.

      • Yes an update! Lol! I have started writing it and I figured I could have Tameeka snap a few shots while we are in the salon. I am going to have her take my hair back down to my ash brunette and plan on addressing those pesky grays with Cassia, so I will have that review in the next few months. AND PLEASE extend the GOC! Your site…with all of the beautiful natural bellas is such a source of inspiration for me :-)!

    • Seriously? I kind of feel like it doesn’t look much longer than it did in my July length check! But, I didn’t wear the same sports bra, so I’ll have to take a pic with that on too.
