Love this “unique” HairStory told by Dominque and Bunny. I think that you’ll enjoy it too :).
Describe yourself in 100 words or less.
My younger sister, Bunny, is a gymnast, dancer, and natural hair enthusiast! I’ve been taking care of her hair for my mom for a couple years now. I started because we have several other sisters with natural hair and there were too many heads for my mom to do! Bunny’s been natural all her life and won’t hesitate to educate anyone and everyone that her hair is “so perfectly happy because chemicals can’t touch me.” lol!
How long have you been natural and why did you chose to go natural?
She’s been natural for nine years – her entire life – and won’t have it any other way. The choice to keep her natural was made for her up until she was eight, then my mom said it would be her choice once she’s about thirteen or so, but Bunny says she’ll be natural forever. I hope she means that!
What is/was your biggest hair challenge/obstacle? How did you overcome it or what are you doing now to try to address the problem?
We both agree that protective styles are her biggest obstacle. With all the different beads and ballies out there, it can be hard to settle for a bun or twists.
What do you love most about your natural hair and/or about being natural?
Bunny: My favorite thing would have to be all the different hairstyles that I get to wear. I love that my hair is so long and huge and fluffy.
What is your current regimen? Has it changed in any major way since you first went natural?
Right now I wash and condition her in six braids, then take one out at a time to detangle and moisturize. Once I’m finished with that, I will two strand twist her hair. Once her twists are dry, I’ll style her hair in either cornrows or twists, whatever she’s in the mood for.
What are your Holy Grail and staple products?
Lots and lots of conditioner! Pantene, Garnier, VO5 and Suave are her hair’s favorite. We use them like leave-ins and her hair has flourished because of them!
What is your “go to” style? Do you wear protective and/or low manipulation styles? If so, how often and why?
We don’t really have a “go to” style, because she doesn’t like to wear the same hairstyle more than once, but we do a LOT of low manipulation styles. She wears beads about once a month, for a couple days, then protective or low manipulation styles for the rest of the time.
How often do you cut/trim your hair? How do you cut it (salon, DIY, straight, curly, in twists)?
I don’t like anyone to touch her hair, so I’ve started trimming it myself. I blow dry it straight about once or twice a year, then I remove any stringy/damaged ends.
Has going natural impacted other areas of your life (i.e. health & fitness, style, environmental consciousness, etc.?) If so, how and in what ways has it affected your lifestyle?
Bunny: It’s made me and my sister closer, definitely because we’re both natural. And it made her start her website and I meet so many people who have hair like me.
Do you have a “hair crush?” If so, who?
Bunny: I love the girl from Diaryofahairprincess.blogspot.com.
Who do you follow online (i.e. blog/website, Youtube, Fotki, etc.)?
Diaryofahairprincess.blogspot.com and KandyLandKurls.blogspot.com
Where can we find you online?
http://www.natural-hair-care-info.com/index.html
What advice would you give someone who is contemplating going natural and/or becoming discouraged with their natural journey?
Bunny: I say go for it. Take that jump and enjoy the highs of being natural! You won’t be sorry that you did.
Anything else that you’d like to add?
Bunny: I’d just like to say thank you for the interview and cool site!
