So, right around the time that I started the Hairscapades Facebook page, I “met” Fatemeh, the artisan behind Fatemeh’s Jewelry & Accessories. I loved her peacock earrings and crochet hats so much that I sent her a message about possibly doing a collabo. Well, that irksome “Other” Messages FB folder tried to stand in the way of progress. But now, many months later, FB’s nefarious plot has been foiled!!

by Fatemeh’s Jewelry & Accessories

I started making jewelry in the summer of 2010. I am an advanced crocheter and, for some reason, got tired of making coats and sweaters. I sat down one day and started making jewelry. A box of items were just sitting on the floor, so my sister suggested that I sell them. That’s where Fatemeh’s Jewelry & Accessories started.

I make crochet and beaded jewelry and hair accessories. Every item you see is made by hand. Every bead is strung, every wire is wrapped, every fabric is cut and yarn is crocheted. I want people to walk around with an item that no one else has. So, my jewelry is one of a kind. You will not see any two pieces alike. But, items can be duplicated upon request. Look in the “Sold” section of my shop.

I am very meticulous. If I don’t like a finished product (crochet or jewelry), I will take it apart. I have taken apart whole crochet sweaters. People think I’m crazy for doing that. If I don’t like how an item looks, it will not be sold or given away.

I also do custom orders … YOU create a one of a kind piece.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Spring is here! Spring is here!! That being said, you know that I’m starting to break out the big, bright hair flowers. I will also probably be hitting Michaels soon to pick up some new blooms to make a few more clips using my DIY tutorial.

Not feeling like making your own and/or want to supplement your existing flower “wardrobe?” Well, about a week ago, Erin of Botticelli Botanicals told me that she unearthed a huge stash of silk hair flowers that she had made years ago! And, guess what? She’s now selling them, 3 for $10, in her Etsy shop!! Now, that’s a great price!! So, if you’re interested in picking up some flowers to give your protective style or WnG that extra POP, check out Erin’s offerings via the link to the shop above.

Goody Goodies!!

Goody Goodies!!

Back in February, I did a post about the Goody So Smooth 2-in-1 Brush, which I’d purchased many years ago. I really liked it, but it had been discontinued. So, I “dug around” and tracked down a seller on eBay who had a few. After purchasing a back-up for myself ;) and receiving a confirmation e-mail that it was shipping the next day, I told the seller (David) about Hairscapades and the post. He advised me that several of the brushes sold within minutes of the post publishing and all but one sold by the end of the week!!

David then advised me that he carries a lot of Goody items, including discontued merchandise, and was willing to offer my readers a 10% discount on any of his listings!  He simply asked to be contacted via e-mail for direct sale and that you mention “Hairscapades!”

So, if you’ve been looking for hair tools and accessories, like the satin pillow soft rollers pictured above, Comfort Flex barrettes, Ouchless ponytail holders or any other other Goody item, check out David’s Ebay shop: num25bers. If you see something you want, e-mail David at dstein3078@aol.com with the item(s) and let him know that you learned about his store on Hairscapades and he’ll take it from there!

Here are a few items that David currently has available.

HAPPY SHOPPING!!

Sally’s Getting Curly with It!

Sally’s Getting Curly with It!

Yesterday on FB, Mekale wrote:

I am posting from Sally’s because I am so freaking excited. They are now carrying Curls, As I Am, Curls Unleashed (by ORS), Curl Care (by Dr. Miracle), and Beautiful Textures, which are all geared towards natural hair. I live in a small town and the two BSS here do not carry natural hair care products. I am doing a happy dance as I type.

So today, while Wei was getting a MANi *lol*, I decided to hit the Sally’s next door to use my 15% off coupon to pick-up a back-up Socialite (my new HG terry-lined shower cap that I told you about here). Of course, I couldn’t resist looking for Sally’s Natural CurlyLand line-up. And, sure enough, I found it!!

(I wonder what the sales reps were thinking when I started snapping photos? I’m Lois Lane baby, I got a job to do!! *lol*)

NICE!! But, you will be so proud of me (or maybe not ;) ), because I resisted my inner PJ and didn’t buy ANYTHING!! I’ve been wanting to try the As I Am Co-Wash since I first learned of it last summer. However, I have some other stuff in the cabinets that I haven’t even tried yet! So, I’m putting myself on a new products hiatus for the time being. But, you know I didn’t leave Sally’s empty-handed. Got my back-up shower cap, another dri-sweat headband, another Stay-On Satin Doo Tie style “bonnet” like worn on my braided style here) and four hand lotions (they were only .79, but then they were BOGO too! SCORE!). Yeah … I’m all about the “back-ups.”

Now … let’s see how long I can keep up this product hiatus with temptation right around the corner … LITERALLY (Sally’s is, like, three blocks from my house)!

Dollar Store Haul

Dollar Store Haul

The other day, I mentioned in this post that I found the satin hair tie/scarf that adorned my retro swoop and French twist updo at my local Dollar Tree and I wanted to go back for the other color. I don’t know if you know this about me … but I love a deal and a steal ;) ! So, of course I had to check out what else they had to offer along the line of affordable hair accessories!

Well, I found the above satin flower headbands and hair clips and had to get them. I saw the grey flowers first.

Although I’m not a fan of this type of metal clip (a strand inevitably gets caught and snagged/torn in the removal process), I figured that I could remove the clip and attach the flowers (which are backed by felt) to a different kind of clip or a headband. I could also attach a hair elastic and a pin like I demonstrated here. So, definitely worth a dollar. I was doubley psyched when I saw that they had the brown and pink flowers already attached to headbands!

Next, I picked up bendie satin hair ties/scarfs in solid black and in a white/black/brown leoparard (I passed on the B&W zebra print) and scooped up this cute, brown plaid bow headband!

Oh yeah! Watch out now Minnie Mouse!

Oh! And one last thing! I hate getting plastic bags in stores and have many reusable totes/bags to avoid this. However, unless I’m hitting the grocery store for a major trip, I inevitably forget them in the car! Well, I found the cutest little stow away totes that I can just throw in my purse, so that I’ll always have a bag on me for those quick shopping expeditions!

Cool, right? They  had this other really cute one that looked like a watermelon. But, they only had two left and they both were damaged. The clerk said they should be getting another shipment soon though. However, now that I think about it … do I really want to be pulling a watermelon out of my purse? Ahhhhhh hell nah …! Well … maybe. LOL!

Anyway, not a bad haul for $8.56, right?! I’m definitely going to be hitting the dollar stores to check out their hair accessory offering more often!

Miss Jessie’s BOGO Sale at Target

Miss Jessie’s BOGO Sale at Target

I’m not a fan of Miss Jessie’s products. I used them a few years ago and, though they seemed great at first, after a couple of months I realized that the health of my hair was deteriorating. It only ever felt soft and moisturized the day I applied the product (I started with the Baby ButterCreme and then moved to the Curly Meringue). So, I was re-wetting my WnG and applying additional product daily and it also made my hair feel kind of sticky/tacky. However, the worse of it was that when I washed my hair, it felt stripped, dry and brittle. My naked hair was feeling damaged. I was co-washing weekly and using DevaCare No Poo once a month probably. So, it definitely wasn’t related to using a sulfate shampoo. Anywho, all this to say that I’m not sharing this because I recommend or co-sign on these products. However, some people love Miss Jessie’s and I know others may want to experiment with them. As they are very pricey (excessively so, IMHO), wanted to let you all know about this BOGO sale so that those who need to re-up can do so for half the price and those who want to try them may be able to get some of the smaller sizes in order to experiment.

So yeah, if Miss Jessie’s is your thing or you’re wondering if it might be, go for yours ;) !
