It’s the day after Valentine’s Day … So here’s a little love story (sort of … but not really … but could be!?!).
This year has kept me busy! I’ve worked gigs with America’s Got Talent, BET Honors, NHL Classic, the Portlandia Premier, and a few hip hop shows. I’ve been traveling for the past couple of weeks, so I have not spent much time with Shelli. Despite all of this, I don’t really get down with Valentine’s Day or many holidays. I’m anti commercialization of love. This is also part of the reason I’m often pushing against the formalized business institution of marriage.
But recently I’ve been reminded (not by Shelli) that I’m in a relationship now and it’s not about me. And I’ve been given all kinds of advice about gifts I could get Shelli. Some funny, some serious, some sexy … most were good. But these suggestions were from her friends. People that, although they are close to her … they aren’t me! So, I figured that I’d try to find her something really special. Like really special.
I thought that maybe I could find a really special comic book! Or maybe research and find a super secret hair care product with magical powers. I couldn’t find either … but I got her this when I came back from LA …
because we call each other sunshine … but, realized that this is kinda corny. So, I thought that this would be cute … it’s a picture of me presenting her my heart …
But this image was even more corny …
Then I thought about it … I really don’t get down with this commercialized thing. But, I do support the ideal of love. And since it’s the day after Valentine’s Day, I figured I’d just give her the heirloom engagement ring that I’ve been hiding for so long! So yeah … we’re engaged now!
We thank you all for your support, well wishes, prayers and positive energy!
But that’s not the end of the story … it’s the start of something new and magical … and a story to be continued … forever!

Don’t pay him any never mind Michelle. He’s just generally anti-establishment and how the government has tried to make marriage a business. But, from the very beginning, he knew that was the only option and that I believe in the true reasons behind it. He’s been calling me his “wife” for a while and I told him, “Nope, not that yet.” So then he would say, “You know you’re gonna be my wife, right?” And I’d say, “Yes:).” LOL!
YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS! Congratulations to you both. I thought that he would do it after Valentines day to throw you off. So exciting and I don’t even know you, but who doesn’t appreciate a happy / cozy story?
BTW I call my students sunshine lol. My nephew – now 14 – had a preschool teacher who used to call him that.

I haven’t smiled this hard, for this long, and felt this crazy ever!! Oh Shelly I couldn’t be happier, esp. since I know that Wei is against marriage. OMG I am sooooooooooooooooo happy. Congrats you guys. I can’t remember what post it was but you guys went to a wedding and I thought I’d read by the end of the post that you were engaged. Oh but this is soooo much better.
SN: Hubby calls me sunshine, because I’m from a town called Sunset and when we were dating he thought Sunset was named Sunshine.

Well 2012 is shaping up nicely for you already, and I’m sure that you will have many other blessings to come your way.
Congrats to the both of you. I don’t know you personally but I already knew he was going to marry you. He supports you and is vested in your happiness (i.e. your blog and working out) and adds to them just like my husband did before we got married. You guys have already built a foundation of what a marriage is, support and love. Enjoy the process.
This is important when you are both tired and cranky from lack of sleep and the baby needs attention. Yes I know your not preggers yet buy it gets tricky once you have children. Carry on with the love fest. These are just my thoughts could be off, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you had a small ceremony (maybe secretly) and then something large with everyone.

Nadia thank you so much for the supportive words … and yeah, that’s why I’m waiting on the baby thing … just want to enjoy being engaged for a minute and then married for a minute. You definitely tapped right into my biggest concerns … exhaustion causing anger!!! LOL! I tell Wei, “You know that when we have a baby, if I have to be up all night and am exhausted, I’m going to get mean.” He keeps telling me, “I got this.” We’ll see!! But, I think the good thing is that we are honest about it up front as it makes me cognizant of what will happen and he, the reason why, so that we can try to fix it before it’s bad. But, yeah, I know … easier said than done. Anywho … yeah … we’ll see:).
